Top Wedding Cake Trends For 2016

The wedding season is nearly upon us, which means brides and grooms all over the country will be finalising all the details for their big day, from their wedding transport in Manchester to their wedding cakes.

Here are just a few of the biggest confectionary trends you can expect to see at nuptials this year.

1) Ombre wedding cakes

You may have experimented with ombre for your hair, but this year it’s all about ombre wedding cakes with the icing softly shifting colours from the top to the bottom tiers. Pick shades that blend in with your colour scheme and leave decorations minimal to really highlight this modern trend.

2) Cakes with ruffles

Wedding dress styles may have steered away from the ruffle effect as of late, but that’s not to say wedding cakes have too. Instead, this summer will see a number of tiered cakes embellished with sugar ruffles decorated on the outside.

This delicate look requires little else for decoration, and can suit several different types of weddings – from nuptials in grand, stately homes to those in rustic country barns.

3) Naked cakes

Naked cakes – that is without any icing – have been popular for a couple of years, and this trend looks set to stay. This is particularly popular for country-style or boho-chic weddings.

Victorian sponges with strawberries work especially well, while you could also choose a rainbow cake with plenty of cream frosting in between each layer, or a chocolate sponge with coffee butter icing in the middle. Scatter fruit or chocolate on top of the cake to complete the rustic look.
