It’s not perhaps the most obvious choice for wedding cars in Hale but if you’re a particularly fun-loving couple, then travelling to your reception in a dodgem might be the way to go!
It certainly was for one pair of newlyweds who decided to ditch tradition and swap their horse-drawn carriage for a bumper car, according to Kent Online.
Jackie and Ray Naylor thought it was a fabulous idea, with it taking six weeks for the dodgem to be prepared. It had to be sprayed white and have a Just Married licence plate added to the front. Tin cans were then added to the back and a big bow was attached to the front.
Peter Ward, who collects vintage bumper cars, was happy to provide it on the day, saying: “No one had seen anything like it. There was another wedding going on and they had a big Hummer. All the people in there were just looking over at the bumper car. All the hotel staff and guests had a go in it after all the speeches and dinner.”
Of course, the bride still has to get to the wedding venue on the day and dodgems aren’t exactly suited to arriving in style. Can you imagine seeing a dodgem going down the dual carriageway?
